Napoleonic French Cavalry Completed

After having recently completed the last regiment of Napoleonic French cavalry I found a bit of time over the weekend to haul them all out again for a few group pictures:

The figures are all Wargames Foundry or Perry, with the flags from GMB. First up a couple of pictures of the line chasseurs and lancers:

The dragoons and cuirassiers:

And the hussars and guard, along with a regiment of carabiniers:

The final tally is as follows:

  • 3 x regiments of line chasseurs
  • 3 x regiments of line lancers
  • 4 x regiments of dragoons
  • 5 x regiments of cuirassiers
  • 1 x regiment of carabiniers
  • 3 x regiments of hussars
  • 5 x regiments of Guard cavalry

That gives a total of 312 mounted figures. I estimate it took me ten months all up to do this lot which in retrospect is not bad going.

Now for some 15mm medieval Spanish, which I am hoping should only take a few months to get through, if I can get some momentum going.

    1. Cheers Tony. I have a ton of French artillery to do first, but the Royal Artillery is ahead in the pile.

    1. Thanks for that. They do look like quite a substantial mass when arrayed together,

  3. Wow Lawrence. What an awesome sight. I think I would immediately suffer a -2 to an instant army morale check if that lot appeared on the table opposite me.

    1. Cheers Richard. The problem would be finding a table big enough among my gaming group to accommodate them.

  4. A fabulous review Lawrence! I hope it was followed in the officer’s mess by tarts, macarons and cognac.

    1. It was probably a bit early in the day for a cognac when I assembled them, but I did retire upstairs for a cup of coffee and some leftover sponge cake afterwards.

    2. I would have though it never too early for a tipple in France! I recall on a training course in Toulouse a few years ago seeing small bottles of wine for sale in the cafeteria during the breaks. I was tempted for a glass of red over lunch, but figured I would be asleep soon after if I did and I really needed to understand the rather dry subject we were being taught.

    3. They do like a quick drink for dejeuner. Like you though, even if I have one beer at lunch and then stop, I'm falling asleep within the hour. We all caught up for a the day after daughter number two's wedding at a micro-brewery two weeks ago and I remember thinking how nice the beer looked, but knew that would be Sunday afternoon written off even if I had just one.

  6. That is a stunning collection of cavalry Lawrence...around thirty figures per month is a pretty good output too, particularly given the quality of the paint work. Will you ever be able to field them all on one able? That would/will be a spectacular game to see!

    1. Cheers Keith. Unfortunately the largest table my group has access to is around 10', but I still harbour hopes that I'll be able to set up a proper area of my own once the last of the children move out. No doubt a few more years before that happens though.

    2. Hah. My first thought as well....when does it all hit the board together. WEISSERITZ scenario (https://napoleonicscenarios.weebly.com/scenarios.html) has a lot of french cav (64 stands). Table is 6x4 I believe.....
I think the site owner might be one of the little wars tv gamers.

  7. Impressive figures Lawrence, one can imagine the sound of a heavy cavalry charge, all the hooves thundering on the ground must have been very scary/impressive.

    1. Thanks again. It was nice to get all these done. Just need to find some time for the artillery now.
