I have ended up with two George Washingtons, one of them the Perry figure which comes with three boxes of plastic Continentals, and the other a more solid Front Rank figure:
Rather annoyingly, I have also ended up with two Benedict Arnold figures and three instead of the four Front Rank ADC figures I actually ordered, but I suppose he did switch sides so I can potentially field both of them:
Here are the remainder of the Front Rank ADCs:
And some Perry mounted officers:
I individually based some leftover foot figures in the hope they might come in useful in a few Sharp Practice games:
I also completed some Perry AWI civilians, an interesting mix of figures:
And a camp vignette:
The final count for the project came out as:
British: 595 foot and mounted figures
60 horses
11 artillery pieces
Hessians: 179 foot and mounted figures
3 horses
2 artillery pieces
Continentals: 498 foot and mounted figures
28 horses
6 artillery pieces
All up, 1272 foot and mounted figures, 91 horses, 19 artillery pieces and 8 wagons. Now to get them on to the table for a few solo games of British Grenadier, hopefully followed by some Monday evening Sharp Practice games.
Amazing accomplishment, Lawrence! Two ruffles and flourishes and a parade! Funny comment about Arnold.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jonathan. I double-checked what I originally ordered to make sure the mistake wasn't mine. No big problem as he can pass for an ADC figure anyway.
DeleteBeautiful work sir!
ReplyDeleteThanks Michal, it was good to finish the project.
DeleteA lot of work Lawrence! amazing painting on your AWI Continentals,British and Hessians. Good idea about two Benedict Arnold figures painted for the two sides :o)
ReplyDeleteCheers Phil. The Ghaznavids are now underway I'm happy to say.
DeleteOh that is good news about your up coming Ghaznavids project.
DeleteAnd yes, looking forward to your painting the miniatures postings, War & Empire 15mm Ancients forge of battle miniatures?
I completed, finally, painting 2 x DBA Sassanid armies and 1 x DBA Ghaznavids which gives me 3 each for DBA big3 games and use the armies for DBMM,Basic Impetvs and Command Colours Ancients. Soon I will post my Sassanids/Ghaznavids at my blog. My next project, 15mm Arab Conquest Army! :o)
cheers!
Forged in Battle, mainly because I wanted an excuse to purchase an army of their figures and Ghaznavids seemed like a good choice. They do seem very small after a year painting 28mm, and they look like true 15mm figures.
DeleteAn Arab Conquest army will be interesting Phil, and I'll look forward to your forthcoming Sassanid/Ghaznavid posts.
Fantastic work Lawrence. A great achievement overall. I look forward to seeing them all march across a table in anger.
ReplyDeleteThanks Richard. Being a solo game I might even be able to take a few pictures.
DeleteA brilliant end to the months of work Lawrence, very well done indeed on getting the project completed.
ReplyDeleteGotta say I do like the Perry Washington figure and the civvies too.
Thanks Ray. He does look a little more in proportion than his Front Rank counterpart, although I still have a very soft spot for the latter.
DeleteNicely done Lawrence - I am off to the paint desk to undercoat some Perry plastic American infantry - I mentioned the last time you posted the hope that it might inspire me ...... so far, it has only inspired me to get a bag of assembled figures out of storage - now, I am actually going to get them started!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you re Front Rank - still one of my favourite ranges of figures!
At least they are already assembled Keith, which is a major mental hurdle for me. I'll look forward to seeing these roll off the production line.
DeleteCongrats on the end of a 17 month project! Now the REAL fun begins by getting these troops on the table and enjoying the collection. With numbers like those I would of thought a parade would be in order…😀
ReplyDeleteThanks Stew. I did think about a parade, but when I realised they have been stored across nine A3-sized storage boxes thought better of it. I'll definitely be rotating them out for a few games though.
DeleteAn impressive achievement and with two George Washingtons you may find a route to independence much faster!
ReplyDeleteCheers Stryker. I can certainly alternate between the dashing Washington and the more sedate, well-fed version depending on how the mood takes me.
DeleteImpressive end to your project, I like the vignette too, the contrast between the two George Washingtons is entertaining, both lovely figures as your painting has been across this project!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks Iain. Yes, there is quite a marked difference, and it was even more noticeable when painting them one after the other.
DeleteReally impressive Lawrence and a huge collection put together. Looking forward to seeing them out in action 👍
ReplyDeleteThanks Matt. I have also bought a copy of Rebels and Patriots to give that a go.
