First up is Bailey's regiment as the red facings with brown coats especially appealed to me. I mixed in a few different coloured coats and trousers to give them a slightly less uniform appearance:
The bulk of this unit are Perry plastics which are quite easy to put together, although three boxes' worth have taken me the best part of six to seven hours:
The nice thing about plastics though is being able to vary the poses and swap things like backpacks around:
The flags are from GMB and are a rather simple design:
The second unit, also from Massachusetts, is Marshall's regiment in the more iconic blue coat with red facings:
With a slightly more decorated but still unelaborate flag from GMB:
I also completed two accompanying casualty markers:
That is the first two Continental regiments completed, with just another seventeen or so to go:
There does however seem to be a lot of variety in uniform colours and style which I am hoping will be more than enough to keep interest levels up over the coming months.
Fantastic painting, Lawrence! The Americans certainly field a variety of uniforms. You should not get bored.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jonathan. It is great to be able to mix it up a bit after all the reds of the British and blues of the Hessians.
DeleteThese look fantastic Lawrence! You are right about the variety in the American uniforms, including different hat styles as well as a multitude of different coat colours.....I still have several units of assembled but unpainted Perry Continental units in my painting queue....if I ever stop painting 10mm Ancients!
ReplyDeleteI was expecting a bit of variety as I knew about the supply difficulties etc., but was pleasantly surprised how much there is. I knew you had a lot of Victrix Continentals after that purchase last year, and will look forward to seeing your Perrys as well.
DeleteAbsolutely gorgeous paint work Lawrence. Such a great looking period. The brown coats looked a treat... who am I kidding, everything you produce is outstanding.
ReplyDeleteVery kind of you Richard. There is nothing like starting on a new army and riding the wave of motivation.
DeleteVery nice Lawrence, the army coming along đ I must say I always vary from one side to the other to give a bit of variety in colours. When I get around to it I have a couple more AWI units to paint…but no rush đ
ReplyDeleteThat would have been a good way to do it as well Matt, but I find it easier to work through one side at a time otherwise I forget what I am doing.
DeleteFan-tas-tic.
ReplyDeletereally look good. đ
Cheers Stew. They were nice little sculpts to paint.
DeleteSome beautiful work Lawrence!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ray. They are an interesting subject, which helps.
DeleteSplendid looking Continentals! Lovely finish as always! Nice to have a variety of uniform colours to work with, after the next two French line units I'm looking forward to a change!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain caveadsum1471
Thanks Iain. Your French are coming along beautifully, but there is little variation in French Napoleonic line uniforms.
DeleteThose are really nice Lawrence. I think I liked doing the American regiments more than the Brits. I think the Perry plastic Continentals have a bit more swagger.
ReplyDeleteCheers Mark. I too am enjoying the Continentals much more than the British or Hessians. The Perry plastics are great and easy to put together, but always take me longer than I think they will.
DeleteJust been checking out these and the previous AWI entries, lovely work Lawrence! Very tidy including the little unit names on the back, I'd like to do that for my Napoleonics too, but of course many of the line end up representing different regiments in different battles.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mark. I'm not working to any particular OOB so as you say these will almost invariably end up being stand-ins for other units, so I suppose I only really do it to remind me who I initially based them on.
