Portuguese 11th Almeida Cavalry Regiment

The last of my intended Portuguese cavalry units, the 11th Almeida:

This unit was part of the Southern Grand Division as indicated by their blue piping, although in the case of the 11th Almeida they had a sky-blue collar as their main distinguishing feature:

They were fairly actively engaged throughout the Peninsular War, and saw service at Salamanca and Vittoria:

These Front Rank charging figures are slightly more dynamic than their "at rest" dragoons and were, as usual, a pleasure to paint.

Now to finish some staff, and then on to the artillery...

  1. Was that four or five Portuguese cavalry regiments? Great stuff. When I come to Australia next time we have to catch up for a game, assuming you are anywhere near Sydney - where all my Aussie family live.

    1. That's just the three Brian and, given the paucity of Portuguese horseflesh, I'll probably leave it at that.

I'd love to have a game. I was born in Sydney, but have been living in Brisbane four twenty-six out of the last thirty years so here is pretty much home now. The irony is that my family are split between Auckland, Cambridge and Wellington (even though they were all born in the UK), so it is equally as likely I'll end up having a game in your neck of the woods. Either way, it would be great to catch up for a beer when we are next in each other's neck of the woods.

    1. Thanks Phil, much appreciated. I hope they at least look as though they may be contemplating a quick canter, if not yet a full gallop!

    1. Thanks Peter. The officers are nearly done, so it is just the artillery but also six battalions of Cacadores. In between house-hunting and a trip to Hawaii and Las Vegas for a friend's birthday, I hope to have them done by late September. That's the plan at least...

    2. Very good re Portuguese targeted completion!
House hunting - ugh! We moved to our house in 1988, and that was a love of less than 3 miles, after which I said "I am dying here, and never moving again!", LOL! Las Vegas and Hawaii are both parts of the US I haven't been to myself!

    3. I must admit that those two destinations weren't high on my list, and I'd probably much prefer holidaying in your neck of the woods Peter. With any luck we'll have the house situation sorted by then and I'll be able to relax.
