Next Three Continental Regiments

Even with the recent cyclone that crossed the coast in the northern suburbs of Brisbane and the attendant disruption it caused, mainly from a sense of anticipation rather than too much physical damage, I managed to finish another three Continental regiments to bring the total so far to eight units completed:

First off the production line is the 2nd Connecticut regiment which joins the already completed 1st Connecticut, and is my last unit of Perry plastics:

Again wearing rounded hats, this regiment appears to have been attired in brown coats with white facings as opposed to its red-coated sister regiment:

The GMB flag for the 2nd Connecticut is a quite striking blue flag:

Next up is my fourth Massachussets regiment in Warner's regiment:

I relied entirely upon the Perry painting guide for this unit as it had caught my eye with what appeared to be light purple or violet facings which I thought looked good against the brown coats. At least that is what it looked like in the guide, which is good enough for me. There was another green-coated New York regiment called Warner's regiment which had the nickname of the Green Mountain Boys, but that appears to have been a different unit:

The last unit is the 1st New York regiment, also of 24 figures:

It was quite noticeable after painting plastics how much thicker the bayonets are on metal figures, which is necessary to strengthen them:

The flags for the 1st New York are again quite eye-catching:

I also completed the penultimate casualty dial. A dynamic figure who could almost be carrying a beer instead of a musket in his hand, and dancing at a wedding:

That is another seventy-one figures completed in just over two and a half weeks, which I was quite pleased with:

Next up, the last three Continental line regiments.

  1. Beautiful troops Lawrence. Not often that we get to use violet on our figures. Great painting as usual.

    1. Thanks Richard. It was the contrast with the brown that attracted me to this regiment. I just hope I have got it close to correct as I was working off a very small picture.

  2. They all look wonderful, Lawrence and you are certainly cracking through them at a good clip!

    1. Thanks Keith. I have five units of militia to complete after the line and I suspect they may be a bit of a chore after the novelty of the first one or two wears off.

  3. Brilliant looking figures Lawrence, like Richard said, you don't get to use violet paint very often, and they look pretty cool with it as well. As of course do all the other non violet figures!!

    1. Thanks Ray. I just hope it is 'correct', although there is enough conjecture around what Continentals actually wore for it to pass muster.

    1. Thanks Phil. The project is for myself, and I hope to have a few games on the table before the end of the year.

  5. Good to see that the cyclone missed you! Fab looking regiments, as always. Painting 71 figures in under three weeks is a very respectable clip. Great job!

    1. Thanks Jonathan, I am pleased with the progress and hope I can keep the pace up as there are a couple of other armies I'm keen to get stuck into.

    1. Cheers Stew. Of course it helps that we have had three new grandchildren arrive a few months ago and the wife is spending a lot of time helping out, so less time directing me to do jobs around the house.

  7. Not my period but I do admit they look great Lawrence.

I don't know how you managed to keep up the output through cyclone Alfred we were too stressed with the noise of the wind and the rain.

    Cheers Chris

    1. Thanks Chris. We got a lot of rain, but the wind wasn't too bad where we are. It was more the anticipation of something bad that was distracting, and I like to paint listening to the radio and of course that was wall-to-wall cyclone coverage.

  8. Lovely looking Continentals in a short time with some great looking flags, I like the chap at the wedding and I have a unit of Austrian infantry with violet facings earmarked from the Perry info sheet for when I get home, as for some reason I didn't bring any violet with me! I find the Perry sheets to be terribly useful, packed with lots of very useful info !
    Best Iain

    1. If I was painting on the run as it were, violet wouldn't be one of the colours I would necessarily take with me. I am still in awe as to how many figures you manage to complete when travelling Iain.
