This last group of sixteen figures means the medieval Spanish army is now complete. Rated as superior pike, these Swiss halberdiers will make the occasional appearance in future games:
Relatively simple figures, they were great to paint. Probably because they were straightforward to do, and there were only sixteen of them:
I did briefly entertain the thought of fielding an entire Swiss army, but when I found the army is made up almost entirely of halberdiers I realised that the novelty would soon wear off, plus it would probably be rather boring to play:
I also completed some Bauda medieval tents, with a large command tent I painted in Spanish-style colours:
A couple of smaller tents:
Plus some field huts:
Nice little models, as Baueda products invariably are:
That's the Spanish army completed then. I will quickly do some more English longbowmen to form the nucleus of that army, and then will probably stick with medievals for a little while longer and have a go at a Teutonic army which I uncovered while assembling the Spanish.
Brilliant and well done on finishing the Spanish. Amazing figures as usual, but I love those tents. Especially the command one. Outstanding.
ReplyDeleteThanks Richard. I wanted to give it a slightly Spanish look, again without making it too bright.
DeleteI am with Richard. Brilliant work across the board. Time for a Spanish Pass-In-Review?
DeleteThanks Jonathan. Yes, I think a review will be in order and will try to put one together over the weekend.
DeleteSplendid looking tents and lovely halberd men, reminds me of a period print with the huts and tents in it!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
I know the one you mean Iain, and think that is what these are probably modelled on.
DeleteGreat job on the miniatures and the tents. And hooray for an army completed. I’m guessing your building these for a particular rule set that has an army list of some sort. 😀
ReplyDeleteThanks Stew. The group I game with primarily play DBMM, but if I can ever persuade them to venture into trying other rulesets I think the army list should work for most.
DeleteAnother impressive unit. The tents turned out top notch- well done.
ReplyDeleteThanks Codsticker. It's always nice to take a break from painting figures every now and then, and the Baueda models are perfect for that.
DeleteI love halberdiers. I think it's becuase I have never had any for my warhammer empire army. The tents look great. I have the big command one myself, I may need to track down something similar for the other smaller tents for the rabble.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave. I always enjoy painting halberdiers as well, as they are a bit different to the usual pike, spear or javelin. The Baueda range is worth a look as the products are reasonably priced and the service is always good.
DeleteMore great work Lawrence, these look great! You make me laugh mate "unearthing" a Teutonic army in your lead mountain while looking for something else! How many unpainted armies are left in your warehouse?!
ReplyDeleteThanks Keith. Only counting armies of 500 figures or more, I think there are just under sixty armies in there. I am getting through them at the rate of two a year and am exercising more restraint than ever before in not adding to the pile. I am hoping to increase the rate of output once I have (hopefully) completed my law degree in six weeks' time, which was intended as another interest but has occupied more time than I thought it would over the past seven years.
DeleteGreat work Lawrence, but what us this word ‘complete’? I know not what it means…
ReplyDeleteThanks Mark. Even as I wrote complete an order arrived with a few more javelinmen and crossbowmen for this army which I will add to the completed lot in due course. Realistically I have enough now, but it doesn't hurt to cover all possibilities in the army list, just in case.
DeleteLike many of the other troops, no reason these deadly chaps can't be used with a number of other armies!
ReplyDeleteThanks Peter. I'm sure they will come in useful for other lists, and sixteen is a nice number to paint.
