A quick post to round out July in the form of some medieval peasants. Many of the DBMM army lists, including the Spanish, allow for a few elements of armed peasants with six elements of five figures each sufficing for most purposes:
The figures are again from Khurasan in packs of six figures in different poses:
In spite of the rather drab subject matter these were fun to paint, so were very pleasant peasants:
I also found another pack of handgunners I had missed, so completed them at the same time before I forget how I did the original batch of 24 figures:
Next up some Spanish spear-armed infantry with large pavise-style shields, which should afford me the opportunity to splash on a bit more colour than I have employed in this project thus far.
Nice batch of peasants Lawrence. Somehow every time I hear medieval peasants I think of the first episode of the season 1 of Blackadder when he mentions slaughtering the peasants as a part of his kill count and Harry’s reply is “oh they don’t count”.
ReplyDeleteCheers Mark. Yes, I remember that series of Blackadder very well. When I was painting this lot though I kept thinking of those Frankenstein films and peasants with pitchforks and torches.
DeleteUnderling: "The peasants are revolting sire!"
ReplyDeleteSire: "Aren't they though....simply disgusting"
I was trying to remember which film that quote was from Dave. Definitely a classic.
DeleteAgain with the “fun to paint “. What is that?! Lol
ReplyDeleteNice job on the miniatures. 😀
When you paint as much as Lawrence, you will find some batches are more fun to paint than others. Sometimes, they seem to paint themselves.
DeleteCheers Stew. A few hours each day listening to the radio or a decent podcast with few interruptions and I find most miniatures are fun to paint. As Jonathan said these did seem to almost paint themselves.
DeleteFor a motley crew, very smartly painted!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jonathan, motley but smart. That was the kind of look I was hoping to achieve.
DeleteUseful bunch of sons of the soil and nicely finished too!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Cheers Iain. Probably most useful as a road bump against steadier troop types, but I'm sure they will come in handy.
DeleteSplendid looking peasants. Shame that they will probably die quickly!
ReplyDeleteThanks Richard. They will most likely end up hanging around the rear guarding the baggage.
DeleteBloody blogger.....I DEFINITELY left a comment here, because I also referenced Blackadder....the episode where they went to the village to see Mistress Scott and Edmund was " in disguise". Whenever someone said " Morning, stranger" he would reply " Morning, peasant!" Nice figures btw Lawrence
ReplyDeleteThanks Keith. Yes, if Blogger wasn't free I'm not sure I'd be paying for it as it definitely has a few quirks.
