French 2nd Regiment of Line Lancers

Here are a few pictures of my recently completed 2nd Regiment of Line Lancers, chosen mainly because I thought the yellow facings would make a nice contrast against the green:

The figures are again Foundry, purchased over twelve years ago so it was nice to see them completed:

The lance pennons are from GMB:

Nice to use, and not too fiddly to apply although I like to paint the edges to mask the white seam:

The regimental flag is obviously also from GMB:

That is now twenty-two of twenty-four regiments completed, with just one more regiment of line lancers and the Polish Lancers still to go. I can hear the call of the medieval Spanish getting louder.

  1. You are getting near the finish line of your 24 unit goal. Great job!

    1. Thanks Jonathan. Yes, the end is definitely in sight now. The goal is to get them all done and then (hopefully) never have to paint another 28mm French Napoleonic cavalry regiment.

  2. "The end is nigh!"........more great work Lawrence. I have a bit of a hankering for a few more Napoleonic cavalry regiments...French, British AND Austrian...myself! "Never" is a very long time.....!

    1. I think that's the problem for me Keith. I have British, Prussian, Russian, Austrian and plenty of minor states still to go, so dare not contemplate a return to the French. Not in this lifetime, at least.

    1. Thanks Richard. It is amazing how quickly I can forget what unit they were supposed to represent so I find the unit labels very useful.

  5. The more of these you paint the more I feel the need to add a couple of regiments to my French cavalry!

    1. I don't think they would go amiss Mark. Apart from the Poles there were only seven of them, but they saw a fair bit of action and add some nice variety.

  8. A lovely unit of lancers, Lawrence. All of the six facing colors go well with Green (if memory serves - Scarlet - Yellow - Aurore - Crimson - Sky Blue - Rose Pink).

    1. Thanks Peter. Actually, that's true, although aurore is probably my least favourite.
